Here to help you through changes to aged care
Good news! The aged care system is getting better, and Bellarine Community Health (BCH) is ready to help you through these changes.
Starting November 1, there’s a new law called the Aged Care Act 2024. This new law has one main goal: to make sure older people have real choice and control and get the safe, respectful, high-quality care they deserve.
At the same time, a new program called “Support at Home” will start. This replaces the old Home Care Packages system.
“There’s so much aged care information around at the moment that it can be very confusing,” BCH home care packages manager Laura Fitzpatrick said.“We’re here to listen and to support people to navigate the system and access the supports and services they need.”
BCH’s local knowledge and experience can support you to stay in your own home longer while keeping you healthy, active, and connected to your friends and community. BCH either provide services itself or work with other trusted providers to deliver the support you need.
Friendly volunteers at the BCH Ageing Well Hub can help you contact My Aged Care, walk you through what services are available and the steps to get assessed. Drop in at the Drysdale site on Tuesdays and Thursday from 10am to 12 noon or make an appointment for the Portarlington site by phoning 1800 007 224 or heading to bch.org.au
You don’t have to figure this out alone – BCH is here to help every step of the way.
