A POP-UP vaccination hub at Barwon Heads Town Hall on Saturday booked out within an hour of going online.

The Barwon Heads Family Practice initiative was run by staff volunteers who wanted to give something back to the community.

Dr David Russell said it was important to get vaccines to people in the community who wanted them.

“We’ve been providing AstraZeneca vaccines for a couple of months and we’ve had lots of people asking about Pfizer,” Dr Russell said.

“We knew we needed to get as many done as quickly as possible.”

Staff member Briony Roberts said the family practice, which itself is a family business, wanted to give back to the local community.

“The response has been overwhelming, the community has really embraced it,” Ms Roberts said.

“It’s been amazing to see the number of people who have booked in to be vaccinated today.”

The 100 appointments booked out within an hour of going up on the Barwon Heads Family Practice website.

“Well done to everyone who has rolled up their sleeves to be vaccinated today,” Ms Roberts said.

Dr Russell acknowledged the incredible efforts of staff who had volunteered their time to make the day a success.

“I want to recognise the effort of everyone who is here today, we have had people who have given up their weekend to volunteer to increase the vaccine rate in our community.”

“As vaccines are our best weapon against the coronavirus, I’m very impressed with the effort everyone is making.”

Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines are also available at the Barwon Heads Family Practice.

Appointments can be made via the online booking system at barwonheadsfamilypractice.com.au.
