A connection between land, water and life

October 21, 2022 BY

"Connewarre".

Art meets nature on the Bellarine, where land, water and life connect in the work of local painter Alison Fincher.

Fincher is participating in the Bellarine Arts Trail (#1 on side A of the BAT map). Her studio at 21 River Parade Barwon Heads will open for four days, including BAT dates October 29 and 30, and the following two days; October 31 and November 1, from 10am-4pm each day.

Visitors to Fincher’s studio can expect to see a diversity of subject matter in her paintings. The Bellarine Peninsula is a source of inspiration for much of her work, with water and local bird life frequently featured.

An avid traveller, she also captures the spirit of places she visits in watercolour, including some from Italy, a favourite destination.

Her work has been recently recognised, with her painting “Tidewater” winning an award in the Australian Watercolour Muster 2021 and digitally exhibited at the Fabriano in Acquarello 2022 international watercolour exhibition in Italy.

Other works were awarded Highly Commended in the 2022 Camberwell Art Show, and the 2021 Ocean Grove Rotary Art Show in Point Lonsdale.

Earlier this year, Fincher was a guest painter at the Watercolour Society of Victoria “Permission to Play” demonstration evening.

Fincher works primarily with watercolour, acrylic and ink. In addition to watercolour on paper, she paints with “wateracrylic” on canvas, in which a mix of watercolour and acrylic is built up in layered washes, the colours creating images with a transparency reflective of her loose watercolour painting style.

Watercolours on paper in a variety of sizes, framed and unframed, and larger wateracrylics on canvas, are on display and available for purchase from the studio. A range of Fincher’s art cards is also available.

More information about Fincher’s work can be found on her website and appointments to visit the studio can be arranged for times other than scheduled events.
