A panto to sweeten the school holidays
THE original and reworked children’s pantomime Hansel and Gretel will keep the whole family entertained these Easter school holidays.
Theatre 3triple2 4 Kids will present this classic tale – with some cooky new twists – at Bellarine Arts Centre, formerly the Potato Shed.
Renowned for presenting affordable holiday entertainment, the group has presented nearly 600 performances of pantomimes over the past 20 years.
“We see the importance of not only keeping the cost down but also educating and entertaining the young ones, many who have never been to a live production,” director Susana Nicolls said.
“We now find that some of the original audiences are bringing along their children to enjoy and participate in the experience.”
Brother and sister, Hansel and Gretel, are on school holidays – playing games, learning a song or two, and practicing the famous “slap dance”… oh, and trying to stay out of trouble.

That won’t be easy though, when on a journey through the woods they end up losing their way.
Is that a house made of sweets? Who could live there? Surely no one who lives in such a nice house could be bad… and who is “precious”?
The performance features plenty of audience participation, silliness and laughter, music and singalongs, and you can even learn the famous “slap dance”.
The show is suitable for all ages, not so scary and just lots of good fun.
“Doris is the little old lady who lives in the woods and is not a scary character, although she does like bad things like spiders, bugs, worms and other creepy crawlies,” Nicolls said.

“She is a lot of fun and will have both children and adults laughing and singing along with her performance.”
The Theatre 3triple2 crew has years and years of experience both on stage and off, and cannot wait to bring this classic fairytale to the stage.
Hansel and Gretel will be performed at Bellarine Arts Centre from 14-16 April at 10.30am and 1.30 daily.
Tickets are $15 each, $50 for a group of four, and children under two are free.
