ART HAVEN THE HIVE turns two

September 5, 2018 BY

The Hive in Ocean Grove recently celebrated its second- year milestone, with works currently on display by an assortment of local artists.

The Hive Gallery in Ocean Grove recently celebrated its secondyear milestone, continuing to place a focus on the Greater Geelong and Bellarine.

Aiming to feature more guest artists amongst their regular cohort, new work is currently being exhibited upstairs.

Artists include Ocean Grove local Steve Parkhill who completed a diploma of visual art in 2008, majoring in painting and printmaking.

He takes interest in the concepts of chance, coincidence and circumstance and believes the interpretation of his images is influenced by the experiences of the viewer.

Fellow artist Martin Goldin’s outstanding abstract, figurative sculptures are often first formed in wood- the favoured pieces are then cast in limited edition bronze with a beautiful patina such as “Me the Thinker” or his stylised cyclists.

Alternatively, still life realist paintings in oil and pastel by Kylie Sirett feature everyday objects and the effects of light and shadow.

Kate Gorman is a regular visitor to Ocean Grove from North East Victoria and her current expressive, abstract acrylic works feature a hint of a coastal theme and as a reference to memory of time and place.

Downstairs Willie Wildlife Sculptures has also branched into new bronze native Australian animals.
