December 19, 2018 BY

“My granddaughter loved her week in Shakespeare Mosh Pit and said each day was even better than then previous one, which had been ace!” Saskia’s, 11, grandmother

The Australian Shakespeare Company (ASC) has been running youth drama workshops for kids aged 8 -17 years every school holidays since 2013.

These programs are led by professional ASC actors, directors and educators, these action packed courses are a great way to develop new performance skills, make new friends and discover Shakespeare in a fun, playful way.

And it’s not just Shakespeare: the workshops also often incorporates a focus on acting for screen, stage combat, clowning and commedia del arte. The chance to spend a week working and creating with like-minded peers and passionate industry professionals gives kids a chance to dive in deep and develop something really remarkable.

In January 2019, participants can relish the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of Shakespeare’s most beloved heroes and despised villains!

From Richard III to Rosalind, our tutors will take participants through some of the Bard’s best moments, questioning just what it is that makes a hero heroic or a villain villainous! Through storytelling, drama games, improvisation and scene study, the workshop will build towards a live showcase for family and friends.

The ASC believe theatre is a powerful tool for education, and fortunately it’s entertaining too! Beyond understanding Shakespeare, our holiday workshops bring social-emotional learning directly into the rehearsal room in joyful, creative and purposeful ways.

Get ready to shake the shackles off Shakespeare! See you there!
