Award-winning artist to exhibit at Aireys Inlet

AWARD-WINNING artist Craig Davy has chosen the Eagles Nest Gallery for his first exhibition on the Surf Coast.

The exhibition, At First Light, is made up of a series of seascape works, all inspired by a visit he had to the region.

Davy, originally from the Mornington Peninsula, said he went on a trip through Anglesea, Aireys Inlet and Lorne, stopping along the Great Ocean Road and taking in the scenery.

“The work I’ve done recently is mainly very generic subjects, mainly when the waves are breaking and you might be looking out towards the ocean.

“I was looking for areas that have maybe a reef and I think it was probably low tide when we were there, but there was some really good spots that we found.”

At First Light will feature around 17 large paintings and 10 smaller pieces, all working together to invite people to reconnect with nature.

Davy said he is looking forward to seeing how his work is received, with his pieces focusing on the ocean’s various moods.

“It is a little bit different for me, and I was really excited to do that series, so it will be really interesting to see how people respond to that.”

“I hope this series of paintings evoke memories of happy times and convey feelings we have when exploring, rather than a literal representation.”

A self-taught artist, Davy has been painting for the past 12 years and has more than 100 awards and achievements to his name.

Inspired by many impressionist painters, the majority of his works centre around his passion for landscapes.

At First Light will open on August 9 and run until September 28, with a meet the artist event on opening day from 1pm until 3pm.
