Borough kids have fun walking to school
PUPILS from across the Borough of Queenscliffe last week walked, rode and scooted to school.
As part of VicHealth’s 2017 Walk to School program, the council hosted a breakfast for all three primary schools in the borough.
Pupils were encouraged to get creative and walk, ride or scoot to school dressed as their favourite sporting hero, or decorate their shoes, bikes and scooters.
Borough of Queenscliffe mayor Tony Francis said VicHealth’s program was a free, easy and fun way for kids to get active and learn healthy habits for life.
“Council was delighted to be part of this important initiative,” he said.
“Our successful grant application has provided local school children with improved footpaths for safe travel and funded our healthy breakfast event.
“We love to see families walking, scooting or riding to school to help local kids get active and build healthy habits, confidence and friendships.”
The three primary schools receive certificates for their participation in Walk to School to celebrate their students’ achievements.
Two students from each school were presented with a Rebel Sport voucher.
