Callinan prepares for short mayoral stint
A show coming to the Potato Shed later this month will see the popularly unelected Damian Callinan slip on the mayoral robes for 24 hours to run his comedic eyes over Geelong.
After the one-man public service campaigner has taken in all he can, he’ll rock up to the hall armed only with a projector and a microphone.
Callinan’s ironclad campaign promise is that the makeshift City of Greater Geelong council chambers will be ringing with constituents’ laughter as he reports his findings at the very unofficial council meeting of Mayor for a Day.
Combining photos, observations, municipal advice, colourful yarns and his uncanny eye for seeing things that the locals don’t, Callinan will have the town thinking he’s been residing there for a year rather than a day.
Callinan is a multi-award-winning comedian, actor and writer. He is best known for appearances on ABC TV’s Spicks and Specks, Skithouse, Before the Game and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s annual TV Gala, and his stage show and film The Merger.
Audiences and the community have a chance to have their ideas included in the show by filling out a survey at surveymonkey.com/r/QPYXPNX

What are the three biggest issues currently confronting your community?
What are the three most trivial issues currently confronting your community?
If you were mayor for 24 hours, what would you change?
Who do you see as your town’s main rivals and why? (They always beat us in footy, they’ve got more pubs, they stole our farmer’s market idea, etc), and
If you could rework your town’s entrance sign, what logo and slogan would you use?
There may be also be a special guest or two to do battle over who knows Drysdale and the Bellarine best.
Mayor for a Day will be performed at the Potato Shed, 41 Peninsula Drive, Drysdale, on October 20 from 8pm.
