Coastal Jam is back on the Pier this Labour Day

Coastal Jam is coming to the Pier this Labour Day, with an impressive line-up of international and national sensations alongside Greater Geelong’s own local artists.

For the second year running, Coastal Jam is returning to Cunningham Pier at the Geelong Waterfront on March 12 and the event is doubling last year’s capacity, ready to host a whopping 4,000 music enthusiasts.

Preceding the Geelong event, Coastal Jam will be heading to the other side of the bay on March 11 with Coastal Jam Mornington Peninsula, with 5,000 people at Rosebud Village Green.

Coastal Jam co-founder Adam Metwally said the team at Coastal Jam were locals so were looking forward to putting on a show in their hometown.

“We are activating the Cunningham Pier again, for the second year. We did it last year, and it’s the first time this venue has been used for a music festival in about 20 years, so it’s pretty special.

“Geelong is my hometown, and I’ve been on the Surf Coast my whole life, so it’s got a sweet spot in my heart for wanting to put on projects that are valuable to the region.”

“There’s not much going on in Geelong, so it’s super-exciting to be able to put something like this on.”

By increasing ticketing capacity this year, Metwally said the event had been able to book national and international sensations and have the crowd there to appreciate the solid festival lineup.

Headlining both the Geelong and Mornington shows is Laps Around The Sun songwriter Ziggy Alberts, who will be joined by Hockey Dad, Bag Raiders and The Terrys across the two stages.

“It will be a combination of DJs and bands on a stage outside, on the pier itself, and a few extra activations inside all the venues,” Metwally said.

The event will feature international acts including the likes of Canadian R&B singer/songwriter Rochelle Jordan alongside triple j radio host and DJ Latifa Tee.

The festival will also feature multiple local acts, including renowned DJ and producer Dean Turnley, who is originally from the region.

“He’s probably one of the best DJs to come out of the region in a while. He plays at a bunch of festivals across the state and is really well respected internationally and is a phenomenal DJ overall,” Metwally said.

The lineup also includes local up-and-coming Geelong DJ duo Coco and Ayres, who have been making a name for themselves in the music local scene.

“Then there will also be a large group of local artists supporting outside of the main stages as we progress,” Metwally said.

He said the team at Coastal Jam is anticipating more events such as this in the future, and keeping an eye out for local talent to feature.

“We’re not planning on stopping anytime soon with the growth of these projects.

“We’ll try our best to keep our ear to the ground… our team that are keyed into what’s going on around town.

“Aside from that, I’m a DJ as well, so a lot of the time through DJing, I meet a lot of the up-and-coming artists as well. And we’ll connect. And I’ll try to give them opportunities. There are things in the works.”
