Community invited to support Jakara’s dream

November 15, 2017 BY

BARWON Grove Golf Club – aka the Tin Shed – will host a fundraising event next weekend to celebrate local Jakara Anthony’s journey as an Olympic hopeful.

The event on October 29 will give the Barwon Heads community the chance to support their own and share the dream as she aims to be selected in the 2018 Australian Winter Olympic Team bound for PyeongChang in South Korea in the sport of Mogul Skiing.

Jakara grew up in Barwon Heads and at the age of 16 made her World Cup debut in January 2015, placing 33rd.

In February 2016 she again qualified for the individual World Cup, placing 31st and 22nd in Dual Moguls.

By early 2017, Jakara went on to crack the top 10 at the Tazawako World Cup in Japan with a ninth place finish and personal best, and represented Australia at the Sapporo 2017 Asian Winter Games.

Jakara made her World Championships debut at Sierra Nevada, Spain, in March this year, placing 12th in the women’s event.

Come along to the Tin Shed and help support Jakara’s Mogul Skiing journey on October 29 at 2pm – there will be a free barbecue, raffles, auctions and soloist.

The Tin Shed is in Sheepwash Road, Barwon Heads, behind the CFA.
