Discover the world this winter
The theme of this year’s winter school holiday program at Geelong Regional Libraries is “Our People, Our World”, with sessions aiming to open minds, ignite imaginations, entertain and encourage participants to have some holiday fun.
“We’re so proud of our school holiday programs because they offer kids the opportunity to explore new worlds in an independent way, outside of the structure of school,” Geelong Regional Libraries chief executive officer Vanessa Schernickau said.
“Participants come away with a new interest or even passion, and often even a new friend or two as well.”
This year’s winter program, which started on Monday this week, includes Write Like an Egyptian, a fascinating trip to mysterious ancient Egypt, where participants will learn how to write their name, just like a Pharoah would have.
The Junior Mix – World of Colour is an in-depth exploration of colour through art, craft, games, tech activities and Lego, while Dance Around the World celebrates our people and our world in a fun-filled hour of traditional dances – bring your own dancing shoes.
If it’s a family affair you’re after, the school holiday library program is offering Family Movie Time – leave the dancing shoes at home but BYO popcorn.
Young people over 12 can join a special Mini Masterpieces session, where you can express your view of our people and our world and start your own mini gallery by creating a mini canvas painting and a mini easel to display it on.
Those aged 15 and over can shuffle along to The Art of Tarot, learning about tarot cards and even designing your own tarot card.
The school holiday program runs until July 7.
Sessions run across a variety of times and library locations, so head to grlc.vic.gov.au (click on the “School Holiday Events” in the “What’s On” tab) to find out more and secure your places.
All materials are supplied, all sessions are free but bookings are essential.
