Doctor orders a Dose of Gorman

The Sound Doctor continues an impressive run of talented acts with home-grown star Fraser A. Gorman taking centre stage for their August 25 show.

Gorman, 27, joins fellow local artist Bec Goring on the program and said he was looking forward to returning to Anglesea, a town he spent time in growing up.

“I grew up in Torquay, but my best mate Stu from King Gizzard grew up in Anglesea, so I spent a lot of time there. I love playing gigs in old halls, that’s going to be really fun- I like the vibe,” he said.

“I love performing, it’s a really nice interaction to have with people, I love going to gigs as well. Music is my passion, so it makes sense that I like doing it – it’s thrilling, fun and exciting.”

With a self-described laid back ‘60s inspired sound with a “bluesy rock and roll” fusion, Gorman said his music has a strong lyrical presence.

“I’ve got a bit more of a lyrical twist, I love artists like Bob Dylan, Lou Reed and JJ Cale, all of those type of bands and music inspires me.

“You know you’ve written a good song when it just comes to you.

They’re usually the good ones, the ones you don’t have to toil over.

“I get inspired to write all the time, driving, in bed. Inspiration doesn’t wait for you to sit down at a desk, it’s up to you to catch it.”

Gorman said after touring the world he took a break and returned to his profession as a carpenter and earnt some money whilst recording his latest album Easy Dazy.

“I didn’t really go on hiatus as such I was still doing gigs here and there I just wasn’t doing massive tours.

I’ve always been a comfortable performer in any sphere or place or country, performing is natural for me,” he said.

“I’ve toured America and the UK three times. I’ve always had a really good time playing in Glasgow, Scotland. I love the city and the people, it’s a great crowd.”

Gorman said he was “stoked” to have a record out and be going on tour again, getting out there again and performing back on the Surf Coast.

“I’m really looking forward to the Anglesea show and having Bec Goring for support. I feel like as an artist my sound continues to change and evolve. I try and make each song I write better than the last.

“I started playing gigs as a 15-yearold around Geelong so the music I play now is a lot different. I feel like most artists change their sound many times and that’s kind of half the fun.”

The Sound Doctor presents an evening with Fraser A. Gorman, with special guest Bec Goring, on August 25 at 7.30pm (doors open at 7pm).
