The dramatic power of FURY

November 23, 2017 BY

The Torquay Theatre Troupe has been in rehearsals since August for their coming performance of David Williamson’s When Dad met Fury this November.

In this witty and cleverly scripted play, the audience is introduced to one family confronted by a timeless issue.

Alan is an older, successful, although dubious businessman who has arranged a family get-together with his adult sons and their wives to introduce them to his new, young and attractive American wife.

What unfolds after this revelation is a story of envy, greed, resentment and familial expectations.

This observant and surprising play provides the audience with delicious dialogue, rueful irony and a wonderful cast of characters.

Director Michael Baker is extremely passionate about the coming play and its ability to be both humorous and honest of the state of today’s society.

“This play covers many current issues of the world,” Michael said.

“The script has the ability to talk to people on another level using dark comedy. On the surface it’s a very funny play, but when you take a step back it has many hidden meanings.

“There’s a particular line in the play that I especially love. It talks about how in our world today it isn’t the good people or the one’s helping their neighbours who have power, but the ones with capital and influence who control what is happening around us.”

When Dad Met Fury opens at 16 Price Street, Torquay on November 6 with performances on November 9, 10, 11, 16, 17 and 18, all at 8pm, with a matinee at 2pm on November 12.
