EASTERLY Living is celebrating 10 years of inspiring home design both inside and out.

Firmly established in the West Coast Business Park in Torquay North, the company works with local and international brands to present a curated selection of some of the best furniture available in Australia.

Stocked brands include Armadillo & Co Rugs, Bayliss Rugs, Uniqwa Furniture, Ethnicraft, Weave Home and Feelgood Designs.

Easterly owner Jon Morrow said his company was “another grassroots Torquay business that started in a garage”, much like similar local success stories Rip Curl and Quiksilver.

“Before we had space, we started in a garage, and I started importing from Java and India, and that was our business – 90 per cent of what we had in the store was imported by me through travel, basically.

“The business evolved from there to where we are now – we still have directly-imported goods, but that makes up only about 10 per cent of it.”

He said the Easterly offering had evolved over time, but had always “offered something for everyone”.

“We’ve got stuff for first home buyers as well as people that are furnishing their dream home for retirement.”

Easterly has a sustainable approach to its furniture, selling long-lasting timber products that can be well-used, repaired, and used again.

“With solid timber furniture, you can fix it and repair it, but with the cheaper stuff, it has to be thrown out,” Mr Morrow said.

He said the tastes of the market had changed considerably over the past 10 years, going from rustic timber then to more refined, minimalist, mid-century products with clean lines.

“It’s buy once, buy well – this is what Easterly is all about.

“Enjoy your piece; come home from work and sit at a dining table you love to look at and love to use, and raise your family around it.”

The number of customers is also very different compared to 2013.

“Torquay has evolved a lot in that time,” Mr Morrow said.

“When we started, it was very difficult to maintain a business with the level of people we had in Torquay; now it’s a little easier.

“We came out to the business park when there were only a handful of buildings out here; now there’s a hundred.

“Our windows had no use at all, but now people are going past them… we’ve got a fantastic business park out here with some fantastic businesses.

“We now send things interstate – we’re sending a table to Tamworth today, we’ve got a table going to Fernwood in Perth, we send a lot of stuff to Sydney, Brisbane and all over Melbourne.

“And there’s a lot of Melbourne people that come here to purchase, too. We had a Melbourne guy on the weekend drive all the way for a particular coffee table.”

Easterly is celebrating its 10th birthday with a sale offering up to 40 per cent off items storewide.

Easterly prides itself on selling long-lasting timber products.
