WAVE OF MUSIC AT NEW HALL

Lighthouse Arts Collective will present three artists at New Hall this Friday. Ella Thompson will take the stage alongside Sam Lawrence, a long-time musical collaborator. The pair will accompany one another on their respective sets, performing material from each of their latest releases. Melbourne-based singer songwriter Hannah Cameron will open the show. This event is proudly supported by Regional Arts Victoria. Tickets are $25 per person via trybooking.com or $30 at the door (subject to availability). LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION

Lorne Film will return this weekend after a three-year hiatus to showcase a handful of never-before-seen Australian independent films. Locked in for July 26-28, festival-goers will witness the screening of two world premieres, as well as three short film sessions, an industry panel and other events. The films to debut are Stringybark, created by two Geelong university students, and Lee Galea’s musical drama, Filterphonic. Australian film director Kate Whitbread, who is finalising an independent film shot in Lorne, will be running a special effects seminar on Saturday, July 27. THE HILLS ARE ALIVE

CentreStage Geelong is presenting The Sound of Music at the Geelong Performing Arts Centre across a series of dates throughout July and August. The critically acclaimed production tells the uplifting true story of the Von Trapp Family singers, one of the best-known concert groups post World War II.
