Barwon Heads artist Alison Fincher will open her studio for four days during the Melbourne Cup Day long weekend, including for the Bellarine Arts Trail (BAT) on November 2 and November 3, and the following two days, November 4 and November 5.

The studio, at 21 River Parade Barwon Heads, will be open from 10am until 4pm each day. Find it at #8 on the BAT map.

Art and nature connect in her work. Her loose, layered watercolours and watered acrylics are inspired by water, land, people and life. Visitors to Fincher’s studio can expect to see a diversity of subject matter in her paintings, the Bellarine is a source of inspiration, with water and local bird life frequently featured.

A frequent traveller, she also captures the spirit of places she visits in many of her paintings, including works from Italy, a favourite destination. Fincher’s watercolours have been shown for the past three years at the major Fabriano in Acquarello international watercolour exhibition in Italy, as part of a representative cohort of Australian watercolour painters.

Her works feature watercolour on handmade cotton watercolour paper, also painting larger pieces on stretched canvas.

Fincher works with watercolour on handmade cotton watercolour paper; she also paints larger watered acrylics on a background of stretched canvas. Watercolour and watered acrylic paint, sometimes used separately, sometimes together in one work, are built up in loosely layered washes.

Watercolours on paper in a variety of sizes, framed and unframed, and larger watered acrylics on canvas, are on display and available for purchase. Art cards are also available.

The Bellarine remains a source of inspiration for most of her works featuring local birdlife and water.

Other examples of Fincher’s paintings can be viewed at the Taste of the Trail exhibition at the Barwon Heads Arts Hub, 5 Clifford Parade, and at the Starfish Café, 78 Hitchcock Avenue, Barwon Heads.

  • November 2 to 5, including the Bellarine Arts Trail
  • December 14 to December 15
  • January 25 to January 27
