Find your inner dancer with Torquay Dance Academy

January 22, 2018 BY

Torquay Dance Academy has dance classes to suit all interests.

From exam ballet classes to contemporary, every dancer can find their home.

Principal Kim Fraser believes dance is about joy, expression, movement and connection with others.

“Just like there are lots of different sports for athletes, there are lots of different dance styles for dancers,” Kim said.

“Our aim is to provide a place where girls and boys can learn skills, make friends and share their passion with one another.”

Classes start January 29, with enrolment now open. Some classes are already full but there are still some vacancies available.

A few of the classes include:

Ballet
Classical ballet is known for its grace, artistry and discipline created in the mind and body of the dancer. Exam classes are also offered.

Under 5s Tinkerballerinas
This specialised ballet class for toddlers through to kinder dancers is a unique class specifically designed to introduce the youngest dancers to the beauty, imagination, music and the technique of ballet. These classes fill up quickly.

Stretch/Acro
The splits’n’flips classes complement other dance styles so dancers can have more impressive moves in their performances. From floor splits to cartwheels, walk-over’s and aerials, these classes are designed to further each dancer individually.

Bboys and Bgirls
The boy’s-only b-boy classes are a hit with boys who have great rhythm and love to dance. Its explosive style allows for tricks, acrobatics, power moves and groove. Torquay Dance Academy is starting a girls-only b-girl class this year for girls to get down on the ground and spin.

Adult Dance
The adults-only class is back this year with a different dance style every week. From jazz and hip hop to Beyonce or burlesque, each week will be themed with a new accessible routine. Suitable for beginners to intermediate dancers, the teacher will help guide and challenge each dancer to be the best they can be.

Jazz, hip hop, contemporary and tap classes are also available.

Places will be offered on a first-in basis.
