Find the right balance on the coast
Coastal Balance is celebrating their third anniversary at their funky warehouse-turned boutique-health studio at 2
Haystacks Drive in the heart of the West Coast Business Park.
Despite the new premises, the Coastal Balance team continues to provide effective evidence-informed management of acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, including sports and spinal injuries, headaches and TMJ pain.
Clinical Pilates has been a treatment of choice for many clients who have gotten over the initial pain of their injury and are ready to transition back to their usual activities. Cindy Parks, clinic director and titled musculoskeletal physiotherapist, says that it can be hard for clients to determine the best type of activity to undertake during or after an injury due to the sheer number of available options out there.
She says that the cornerstone of a successful rehab program must include a gradual return to activity with isolated exercises performed at the outset, followed by functional strengthening to be able to restore a more normal pattern of movement that will help to prevent any flare-ups and recurrences.
There has also been a lot of confusion surrounding the new private health reform laws that came into effect as of April 1st this year, specifically pertaining to pilates. However, Coastal Balance assures us that there is no impact on the ability of their clients to claim, as their approach to the use of clinical pilates as a treatment modality has always been based on assessment findings specific to the individual client, rather than a general fitness class.
Coastal Balance has also expanded their services to better cater to women’s health on the Surf Coast with the focus on pre and post-natal treatments for low back and pelvic girdle pain, abdominal separation, mastitis, and pelvic floor dysfunction.
And, with research highlighting the fact that at least 1 in 3 women will have a pelvic health issue in her lifetime, and that stress incontinence can impact up to 80 per cent of women involved in sport, it has become integral to discuss these issues with all of our female clients in combination with their primary injury concern.
Coastal Balance is also delighted to add the assessment and treatment of lymphoedema to their list of services.
