Counterpart is partnering with Great Ocean Road Health and Barwon South Western Regional Integrated Cancer Service (BSWRICS) to hold a free Wellbeing Day next week for women who have experienced cancer.
Ingrid Rial, director of Nursing from Great Ocean Road Health, said they were pleased to see this opportunity for women with cancer being held in Apollo Bay.
“Health care goes beyond treating physical ailments, it includes looking out for the mental and emotional health of our communities.
“When Counterpart offered the opportunity to put on a wellbeing day for people and carers living with cancer, Great Ocean Road Health saw this as a great opportunity.
“Living rurally, patients often travel long distances for cancer treatments and feel isolated.
“The Apollo Bay wellbeing day for women with cancer provides a special day out for people living with cancer to come together in their own town.”
The Apollo Bay Wellbeing Day will include a gentle yoga session, an interactive cooking demonstration with a dietician, and an art therapy activity.
Participants will also be able to connect with other women affected by cancer over morning tea and lunch, which will be provided.
Counterpart is a service of Women’s Health Victoria that supports and informs women with cancer to live well.
“Counterpart provides peer support and information to women with cancer who are living across Victoria,” Counterpart manager Cindy Van Rooy said,
“People accessing our service often tell us living in regional areas makes it harder to find support.
“That is why we are so pleased to partner with Great Ocean Road Health and BSWRICS to provide this support to women living in and around Apollo Bay.
“We are grateful to the Victorian government for funding this program.”
The Apollo Bay Wellbeing Day is free for women who have had any type of cancer and their partners, family or friends.
It will be held at the Apollo Bay Mechanics Hall on Thursday, March 20.
