Geelong’s ceramic gems shine at vibrant market

The Geelong Ceramics Market, a vibrant and thriving hub for ceramic enthusiasts, will hold its 2023 event this weekend.

Established last year, the unique market is the brainchild of two passionate ceramic artists, Rylie Jabornik of Pour and Plate and Elizabeth Bell of Elizabeth Bell Ceramics.

The Geelong Ceramics Market is more than just a market; it’s a celebration of local talent. Its primary mission is to showcase a diverse range of ceramic artists from the Geelong, Bellarine, and Surfcoast regions.

The event provides a platform for both emerging and established artists to display and sell their remarkable creations.

In 2022, the market supported local talent by collaborating with 19 talented local artists in partnership with the Rutland Street traders. This collaboration not only enriched the local community but also added a vibrant tapestry of creativity and culture to the neighbourhood.

This year, the Geelong Ceramics Market will present the works of 17 outstanding artists from Geelong, Surfcoast, and Bellarine.

Visitors can expect to find a wide array of unique and exquisite ceramic artistry, including pottery, sculptures, and functional pieces.

Entry is by gold coin donation, with the market this year supporting Stronger Brother Stronger Sister. The 100 per cent Aboriginal-owned
and Aboriginal-operated organisation aims to support local Indigenous youth through mentoring and youth groups, both online and in-person.

The Geelong Ceramics Market will be held at Big Boom Gallery, 5 Rutland Street, Newtown, tomorrow (Saturday, December 9) and Sunday, December 10 from 10am-3pm. For more information, head to geelongceramicsmarket.com
