Get ready, for Jelly Mammoth
From the ashes of iconic Geelong bands Mock Turkey and Sherpa Sherpa, Jelly Mammoth has arrived and is keeping the live music scene well and truly alive.
Trent Stephens said with himself on vocals, Nick Burchell on (drums), Lonny Pratt (guitar) and Dylan Callanan (bass) crowds can enjoy “fun onstage antics” that create as much “live chaos” as possible whilst generating a large intense sound.
Trent said the band began playing live in early 2016, and as long-time friends, had all played in bands before, been on bills together and ran in similar friendship circles.
“Laying dormant without regular bands we decided to start jamming sporadically before actually locking in a gig to put the gas on the Jelly Mammoth project,” he said.
“I feel that there is a good natural chemistry with all band members in Jelly Mammoth. Everyone brings something different to the table. The belief in each other was apparent from early jam sessions. I think when we’re all able to get into the same room consistently we just know good things will happen.”
Trent said the band enlisted the guidance of Sleep Decade singer/songwriter and sound savant Casey Hartnett (Murder of the Universe King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard engineer) to record the project.
“We recorded live beginning with drums, bass and guitar – the initial bones of the tracks were fleshed out- with Hartnett’s aim to capture the band’s live intensity and heavy sound without compromise,” he said.
Mastered by Melbourne industry icon Jack the Bear at his Deluxe Mastering Studio, with artwork completed by talented friend Benjamin Maguire, the self-titled Jelly Mammoth EP is now ready to be released (on both 12” vinyl and digitally).
The Jelly Mammoth record launch party will take place at the Barwon Club on June 30.
