GET thrifty WITH MEG

February 13, 2019 BY

From interning at New York Fashion Week to furnishing her new home with funky secondhand wares, Ocean Grove’s Meg Rayner is bringing her unique skill set to the Bellarine via a new day tour.

One person’s trash is another person’s treasure, especially for serial thrifter Meg Rayner who’s turned a keen eye for bargains into a business – teaching others the art of thrifting.

Having moved to Ocean Grove recently with her partner, Meg said they decided to furnish their new home sustainably with secondhand furniture, gaining a lot of attention on her socials.

“I have an Instagram account where I share all my secondhand finds, DIY projects and advice on how to live more mindfully,” Meg said.

“I’ve had so many people asking how I do it and where I find my amazing items that I decided to launch the Bellarine Thrift Shop and Winery Tour.

“It stops at seven of the Bellarine’s best Op shops and secondhand stores.

These include Salvos, Vinnies, and of course the amazing Collective Found in Portarlington.”

Meg said the tour is a one of a kind and the first like it on the Bellarine, enabling her to guide both novice and experienced thrifters through the process.

“I held a trial last month and there were half dozen girls. Before we started I asked them what their goals were and they bought so much stuff.” she said.

They were all shopping for different occasions. One was throwing a big boho party and wanted blankets, pillows and decorations; another bought a house and wanted new furniture and the rest were just looking for clothes and accessories.”

From working as a stylist at New York Fashion Week to aspects of her day to  day life, Meg said she’s always mixed old with new and was looking forward to sharing her unique skillset.

“I’ve even organised for a special lunch stop at Bellarine Estate winery so guests on the tour can take a break, enjoy the scenery, sample some of our amazing  fresh local produce and have a cheeky glass of wine,” she said.

“The tours will be running monthly except for April due to the long weekends and Easter holidays and is being offered on Air BnB Experiences.”
