The St Leonards Health, Fitness, and Wellbeing Centre’s journey began years ago when Portside Pilates owner George Cormack (who was overworked, overwrought and tired of the stresses of everyday life taking a toll on his body and mind), came up with the concept of the mental health gym of the future.

From there, Portside Pilates flourished into a wellness centre with a diverse client base that ranges from manual workers, to expectant women, to corporate executives. Even a few famous faces come through the door.

It’s no surprise that this Centre attracts people from all walks of life, offering multiple therapy options from Pilates, Gymnasium, Acupuncture, Massage, and Chinese herbal medicine.

Each modality may individually or collectively improve cardiovascular function, reduce stress/anxiety, provide mental clarity, and combat musculoskeletal pain (back, neck shoulders), treat ill health, and relax muscles.

Jennifer Elshaug is a Doctor of Chinese medicine running Velvaere Acupuncture and Herbal medicine, her treatments may include acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, Chinese herbal medicine, diet, and lifestyle advice.

Chinese medicine aims to restore and maintain the natural energy (Qi) within the body.

Disease comes about from disorder of the body’s energies, while longstanding disorders produce chronic disease. Your body pursues balance, striving constantly to achieve this, pain is your body telling you where it is having difficulty.

Jennifer has experience in musculoskeletal conditions, chronic pain, women’s health and fertility, digestive health, sleep issues, mental and emotional health.

Anita Hayden runs Sea Spray Massage therapies; her massage treatments include the blending of her own massage oils and scents which may help calm thoughts and reduce stress.

A calming tea, and Indian head massage, and you become a new person.

The Spin Cycle room offers an open-air environment to improve your cardiovascular fitness and de-stress. Combining Spin with Reformer Pilates is a great opportunity to benefit your whole-body workout.

The Gym offers everything needed for a great workout, and Personal Training is available by appointment.

The Pilates studio is well equipped with ten reformer beds and ten Vibro-Plate machines.

Running Portside Pilates, George and Mel have an unquestionable passion for what they teach.

Encompassing the principles of Pilates, their fitness Pilates methods produce striking results, increased strength, flexibility, co-ordination, balance, and endurance with a greater sense of ease and wellbeing.
