Holiday to dance into Torquay
Australian pop star Keli Holiday is longing for more with his newest musical offering and hopes to bring Torquay along for the ride this May.
After a whirlwind start to the year, which included taking out number two in triple j’s Hottest 100 and returning to the top spot on the ARIA Singles Charts with Dancing2, Holiday is set to bring his bold antics to the Surf Coast on 22 May.
He hopes to bring the heaving energy and transform it into a sweet-soaked room; one where he can truly come alive.
“I can’t wait to come back to Torquay, it’s very quickly become one of my favourite parts of Australia. I’ve become infatuated with everything about it. It’s a gem.
“Expect some choreo, some piano moments, intimacy, and make sure you bring your dancing shoes.”
His regional tour comes off the back of the release of debut album Capital Fiction – a bold inhibited statement on sex, love, rock and roll and everything in between.
According to Holiday, aka Adam Hyde, the album is the first offering that is true to who he is – “a cacophony of synth, pop, rock and fun”.
“It explores themes of longing for more, finding love in a crowded room, and the union of sex. I have spent the majority of my days since the birth of Keli Holiday focusing on what I want to say, how I want to say it, and what I want it to sound like.”
New single More dives further into the themes of longing, and the “carnal yearning for more”.
“It’s when you are in the throes of intimacy with someone you want to envelope entirely. Like a dog in heat. All is not enough. More is not enough, but it’s the only word we got.”
While the album is full of high-octane moments, including a sneaky sample from Aussie dance music royalty The Presets, it also reveals a softer side to Keli Holiday, with tender tracks such as Sacred Sweat and the heartfelt closing ballad Favourite Stranger.
“The one thing that’s sure in life is death. We’ve all lost someone or will lose someone we love somewhere down the line whether we like it or not.
“To sit in grief and longing is human, what is harder in our human condition is to look back and not only admit the loss but accept that it’s OK.”
Preparing to tour the album across Australia, Holiday said he is always on the pursuit of new ideas.
“I will be releasing Keli Holiday albums until the day I drop dead. I want to continue to chronicle my life in strange little words on a bed of music that feels right for that zone in my life.”
Tickets to the Torquay show are available via Oztix.
