Jog your memory and help beat dementia

April 18, 2018 BY

Memory Walk and Jog events are being held across Australia – including the March 25 event in western Sydney.

PEOPLE across the Geelong region have been urged to get active to beat dementia as the Memory Walk and Jog returns to Geelong later this month.

The annual event run by Dementia Australia will be held at Barwon Valley Park in Belmont on April 29.

The first 500 people to register will receive a free Memory Walk and Jog event T-shirt.

Register for the 2.8-kilometre walk, 6-kilometre walk or 10-kilometre run and help those affected by dementia.

The condition will have the greatest social and economic impact on our time.

With an estimated 104,622 Victorians living with dementia, Dementia Australia’s services have never been in higher demand.

All funds raised increase Dementia Australia’s ability to provide vital support services, such as counselling, support groups, education to help family carers and professional training across Victoria.

These services reduce feelings of isolation and empower people living with dementia and those caring for them.

With your help, we can make sure that support is always available to those who need it.

What started as a small community event in 2004 now brings together tens of thousands of people each year and is one of Dementia Australia’s biggest fundraising campaigns.

This year will see 10 or more flagship events across Australia as well as an estimated 50 DIY Memory Walk and Jog events being run in the regions by smaller communities. Individuals nationwide will also be pledging kilometres for their own solo challenge.

All Memory Jog and Walk courses are wheelchair and pram friendly, so it doesn’t matter how old (or young) you are, or what your fitness level is – there’s always a way for you to be involved.
