Kate snaps of it with morning run
Bellarine local Kate Barsby first began running to raise money for Parkinson’s Disease.
Those first steps have turned into a love for endurance running and photography, which see Kate taking pictures on her local morning run and offering those pictures for sale.
“I prefer early morning sunrise sessions. I find them so therapeutic and the mental health benefits of these sessions are huge for me,” Kate said.
“I feel so lucky to see what I see at this time of the day. I started taking pictures out on my running adventures and this is where my little hobby Run and Snap was born!
“It makes me happy to see other people getting joy out of the beauty I see. I also hope it encourages them to get out and experience it for themselves.
“I believe the mental benefits of exercise far outweigh the physical benefits and I try to communicate that to those around me.”
Kate can often be found in Barwon Heads running along some of the Bellarine’s stunning beaches.
“Some of my favourite local running tracks include the Surf Coast trail, 13th Beach at low tide and the Barwon Heads Bridge to the Ocean Grove track.”
Kate has also offer some running tips for beginners:
- Start with brisk walking. Aim for around 20 mins per session. Build up jogging time slowly. Schedule rest days each week to avoid overtraining and injury.
- See your doctor for a check-up before you start your running program.
- Make sure you warm up thoroughly before you head out for your run. Cool your body down with light stretches when you finish.
- Meet up with a friend for your runs. This not only makes your runs more enjoyable but it makes you accountable to someone else.
- Ensure you have the right footwear and clothing to make your runs more comfortable and to avoid blisters and chafing.
