Local artist graces Jashn walls

WHEN Rachit and Aditi Kapoor decided to open a third Jashan restaurant in Lorne off the back of their Torquay and Newtown success, it happened in a flurry.

As the rush of the summer season settled Aditi Kapoor said they were extremely grateful that local artist and dear friend David Rossiter offered a helping hand.

“When we first opened he was in India and when he came back saw that there were two walls unfinished in our Lorne restaurant,” Ms Kapoor said.

“He kindly offered to help out and put some of his pieces on our walls.”

Established artist Rossiter has exhibited at the Boom Gallery in Geelong, Tacit Contemporary Art in Abbottsford and the Qdos Arts in Lorne and has recently returned from his fourth stint as an artist in residence in Delhi, India.

“As a professional artist you can tour around or spend all your time in the studio that you are given, it’s a beautiful place with a museum attached,” Mr Rossiter said.

“I love India and have a special repoire with Indian people thanks to the time I have spent there. I connected with the Kapoor’s when they first opened in Torquay and have watched their kids grow up, we’ve become dear friends.

“When I walked into their new space in Lorne there were some empty walls so I offered my help. They’ve shown and bought my works before so I was happy to help.”
