Mission songs for Sacrededge
In its fourth year, Sacrededge – a festival of arts, music and ideas – will be on at the Uniting Church in Queenscliff. From May 4-6, an interactive art space, international dinner, art exhibition, keynote speakers, and a variety of children and family programs will take place with the intent of celebrating and creating an inclusive community through mindfulness.Refugees, Indigenous, LGBQTI wellbeing and sustainability will take centre stage alongside 30 tops class musicians and presenters.
Mission Songs Project will headline the Sacrededge Saturday night program, a vocal quartet that explores the day to day life on the missions, settlements and reserves through music. From cultural identity to love and loss, these rare songs consist of almost forgotten stories that shed light into the history of our Indigenous elders, family and communities. Sacrededge support worker Louise Roberts said the festival was their response to the sometimes harsh and fearful world we live in.“It is an opportunity to connect with people from diverse backgrounds.
Rather than debate and argue about issues, this unique festival listens to people from the edge; their stories, music, poetry,” Ms Roberts said.“They are the voices from the edge who are vulnerable and not normally heard. With a bunch of people from different spiritual traditions and none, people who love stories, justice, ideas, music and the arts, community is created. “Sacrededge is a lived experience of how we can treasure each other in all our glorious diversity and find our hearts and minds expanded and enriched.” As the festival continues to expand Ms Roberts said they were currently seeking beanbags, rugs or mats that people may have laying around to use throughout the festival. “We’re looking to borrow these items during the Sacrededge Festival,” she said.
