New artists to feature at Barwon Heads Art Show
AN ANNUAL community art show hosted by the Barwon Heads Art Group will return next month. More than 100 paintings by local artists will be on show and available for purchase. The art group’s convenor, Dorothy van Dorp, said the show had something for everyone.
“We’ve got quite a few new artists this year, so that means new paintings in different styles. There will be a lot of local scenes including the Barwon Heads restaurant and the Bluff. It should be a really good show.”
For the first time, the exhibition will also include a series of 9×5 inch paintings. These paintings are inspired by Australian Impressionist artists from the late 1800s who painted Melbourne landmarks on cigar box lids.
Leopold resident Brenda Helwig has been with the Barwon Heads Art Group for 25 years and contributes several paintings to the art show each year.
She said it was a thrill to see other people enjoy her work. “The art shows are terrific to have so other people can share in our work, too.”
The Barwon Heads Art Show is at the Barwon Heads Senior Citizens Centre on Clifford Parade over the Melbourne Cup weekend, November 3-6. The exhibit will be open from 10 am to 4 pm each day.
The exhibition is affiliated with the Bellarine Arts Trail, which will take place on November 4 and November 5.
