New Swell Choir to take the stage
MEMBERS of the New Swell Choir in Point Lonsdale and Torquay are getting their singing voices warmed up as they prepare for their end of year concerts.
The choir, run by Tess Duddy and Ben Talbot-Dunn, welcomes singers of all ages to sing a mix of indie-pop songs that are not widely known.
New Swell Choir has operated in Point Lonsdale for the past three years and will host its end of year concert this Saturday (December 13) at the Queenscliff Town Hall.
The group will sing with guest artist Merpire and be supported by Ella Joan.
Duddy said the end of year performances give performers a goal to work towards that culminates in a celebration.
“We rehearse every week in the term throughout the year, and it’s just a coming together and really relaxed,” she said.

“Here we are performing all of the things that we’ve done in the year and it goes from just being shared with the people in the choir to having an audience.”
The Torquay group, which is in its first year, will hold its showcase on December 16 at the Torquay TIA.
Duddy encouraged people of all experience levels to join, without an audition. Currently, the two choirs boast around 130 members.
She said New Swell offers the chance to meet new people, with many members having already formed friendships.
“We love it, and everybody else loves it, so get on board, join a community choir, doing wholesome activities is the new cool thing to do.”
Entry into both concerts is free, but people are encouraged to register via linktr.ee/newswellchoir
