Stroke Foundation is on a mission to find and celebrate the inspirational Australians who are making a difference in stroke.

Nominations are now open for the 2019 Stroke Awards, which recognise the stroke survivors, carers, volunteers, health professionals and researchers who work tirelessly to improve the lives of people affected by stroke.

Stroke Foundation CEO Sharon McGowan said the Stroke Awards are a wonderful way to say thank you.

“The Stroke Awards are now in their tenth year and I continue to be impressed and amazed by the calibre of the entries we receive,’’ Ms McGowan said.

“There are so many outstanding Australians whose selfless actions boost awareness of stroke, raise vital funds and advocate for a better future for stroke survivors and their families.”

There is one stroke every nine minutes in Australia and more than 475,000 stroke survivors live in our community.

Ms McGowan said stroke can happen to anyone at any age and the impact can be devastating, she encouraged the community to nominate people who have gone above and beyond for stroke.

“There are six award categories this year, which provide the opportunity to acknowledge those unsung heroes whose actions help the Stroke Foundation in its mission to prevent stroke, save lives and enhance recovery,’’ she said.

Stroke Awards Categories: Improving Life after Stroke Award; Creative Award; Fundraiser of the Year Award; Courage Award; Volunteer of the Year Award and President’s Achievement Award.

Nominations close on February 15, 2019, the winners will be announced at the Stroke Foundation’s Stroke Awards ceremony in Melbourne in May.
