Pearly Shells and Seaside Swing
Seaside Swing is pleased to present an evening of Lindy Hop with Kathryn Kelly and Jarrod Bates with live music by Steve Purcell’s Pearly Shells on November 17.
Kathryn and Jarrod are well-known and respected in the dance community for their skill as dancers, teaching talent and experience; they are preparing an evening of classes for beginners, intermediate and advanced Lindy Hoppers.
Seaside Swing’s Marta Ferenczi said Kathryn Kelly saw a dance-scene in the movie The Mask which involved a passion to learn Lindy Hop.
“Dream became reality in 2003 when Kathryn started classes in Geelong. She now enjoys teaching, performing, learning, competing and especially social dancing more than ever, both locally and internationally,” Ms Ferenczi said.
“Kathryn is an energetic member of Melbourne’s Lindy Hop troupe Echoes of Harlem and has won awards at a number of events, including the Australian Swing Dance Championships, Australian Jitterbug Championships and the Melbourne Lindy Battle.”
Ms Ferenczi said Jarrod Bates began swing dancing in 2009 after an encounter with some skilled swing dancers in their sixties and has since gone on to place in many Melbourne and interstate competitions.
“He is a performer with Australia’s premier swing dancing troupe Echoes of Harlem and has taught regular beginner, intermediate and advanced classes in Melbourne since 2012.
“From 2014–2015, Jarrod was also creative director and instructor for Swing Patrol’s corporate performance troupe, Harlem Shout.”
On November 17, Class One will kick off from 6-7pm and is Advanced Lindy Hop, Class Two from 7-8pm is Intermediate Lindy Hop and Class Three from 8-9pm is Beginner Lindy Hop.
The evening will conclude with social dancing to Steve Purcell’s Pearly Shells, dance performances and a DJ from 9 until 11.30pm.
Social dance is free if you attended any classes during the day, otherwise, entry is $15 at the door (cash only), located at the TIA Hall 12 Price Street Torquay 3228.
