People and pets celebrate footy fever
A fashion parade has given dog lovers and footy fans the chance to celebrate the end of the AFL footy season.
Hosted by Woofers and Walkers (a responsible dog owners’ group in Portarlington) with the Portarlington Community Information Booth, the fun event on Friday saw participants and their four legged friends dress up in their favourite team’s footy colours.
The competition comprised a walk along Newcombe Street for dogs and owners, and then a final parade in front of the judges.
In its third year, dogs were also invited to do a sit in front of the judges on the red dog paw mat (the red carpet).
First prize went to the Eden family – Dave, Jakki and their beautiful dog Willow supporting the saints.
Second prize to Kaye Johnson and her dog Pip wearing Danger’s number 35 jumper for the home team Geelong.
Third prize to Isobel McCartin and her dog Gypsy, also enthusiastic St Kilda supporters.
The organisers want to say a special thanks to sponsors and of course the judges Jane Sedgman of Just Next Door for her fashion expertise and Steve Cogger of the Portarlington Demons Football Club for knowing all things about football.
