Rock and Roll
History At The Shed
THE City of Greater Geelong’s March Morning Showtimes at the Potato Shed is showcasing the rarely told stories of rock and roll’s history.
On Tuesday March 13, the Drop Of A Hat Geelong Company will present the History of Rock And Roll with local long-time authentic rockers the Hip Cats.
It’s a sparkling new show that’s researched, written and narrated by Geelong historian Colin Mockett, taking only three months to create the performance.
“The Hip Cats are absolutely wonderful and perform so brilliantly,” Colin said. “Unknown by many people, rock and roll began in the 50s, in the south of America.
“Originally Rock and Roll was called Race Music; everything I share in the performance came as a big shock to me too!”
The show tells the story of Rock and Roll from its 1950s Memphis beginnings and explains how it spread around the world, using narration, big-screen images and rocking live music.
The songs in the show are all classics, including some of the most iconic sounds of the 20th Century.
Beginning with “Rock Around The Clock” and moving through vintage hits like “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On”, “Hound Dog”, “Great Balls Of Fire”, “Blue Suede Shoes”, “Jailhouse Rock” and many more, audience members are sure to be taken back to rockin’ times.
Featured are the hits of Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Bill Haley and Fats Domino among others. The Potato Shed will have an area cleared for dancing on the day too.
The History of Rock and Roll opens at The Potato Shed on Tuesday March 13 at 10.30am. Tickets are $15 including refreshments.
