ROSS THE PODCAST BOSS REVEALS ALL ON hidden local athletes
Mainstream media is drawn to sporting superstars, raking in cash and glory for their athletic feats but for Ross Burrage, there’s a world of quite achievers – and he’s sharing their stories via The Hidden Athlete.
Burrage, an endurance athlete himself, launched a podcast 12 months ago after watching those he describes as “humble champions” receive little recognition for their achievements.
“I have always competed in endurance sports – mountain biking, cycling and adventure racing, and you see all these amazing athletes out there. They get no mainstream media or kudos for being the world’s best,” he said.
“I thought someone has to tell the story of these guys. I’d been thinking about doing the podcast for some time but didn’t have the confidence to do it.
“I bit the bullet and did it anyway and the response over the past year has been phenomenal with the podcast getting over 60,000 listening hours to date.”
An accountant by trade, and selfdescribed “old grungy athlete”, Burrage said he felt privileged to be able to share the achievements of some of the country’s best athletes.
“I bought some basic equipment and then approached my close friends that are world champions like Scott Nicholas (World 24hr Solo Mountain Bike champion) who runs the Torquay bike shop,” he said.
