Sea hits right notes for Barr

November 16, 2017 BY

The sea is a great setting for many an aspiring poet and this was the case for newly published local poet Camille Barr.

Her book, Behind the Façade, came to life when Camille found the beauty of the Surf Coast gave her fertile ground on which to grow her love of critical thinking and poetic expression.

Camille has enjoyed writing poetry as a hobby since the age of nine, but it was while studying architecture at university that she was able to further discover how to use art as a way to explore, express, create and innovate.

It was the art of poetry that came back to her when she was asked to write a narrative for university.

Camille wrote the poem “Behind the Façade”, receiving very encouraging feedback and after finishing the year at university (but not the degree) Camille began her journey as a poet.

The book Behind the Façade took a year to write and was published in July this year, with Camille now working on her second publication using Jan Juc as inspiration.

“This environment has already given me guidance to new poems,” Camille said.

“While watching the distinctive seasons change and how they offer a sustainable system of progression by flowing seamlessly into the next with respect to boundaries, they stay in balance knowing when to give in to the next, creating a harmony that promotes growth.

“This harmony within the natural ecosystem gave the perfect model to relate this to a way of thinking that allows humans to better balance themselves within the world, fostering happiness I can write about.”
