Sequence Osteo loves babies
Osteopathy can support you and your baby post birth and beyond.
Welcoming a new baby home is an exciting and sometimes daunting time for the whole family.
There are enormous changes happening to your baby during the birth and post-natal period that are acclimatising them to the outside world and kick-starting tremendous development.
During the birth process the baby is pushed down into the pelvis, commonly head first and twists once reaching the birth canal.
Did you know the bones of the baby’s skull overlap slightly to enable a smoother passage? This may account for a misshapen head following birth.
Often this resolves but in some cases, or where there has been strain or trauma, it may not.
Dr Joanna Hilbert has recently joined the sequence Osteopathy team after being fortunate enough to gain experience in a Melbourne clinic with focus on paediatric and obstetric Osteopathic care.
Joanna says that osteopathic treatment in babies and children is gentle and noninvasive requiring only a light touch and gentle movement to mobilise joints and release tissues.
“Osteopathic treatment in babies and children aims to reduce muscular tension throughout the body to facilitate blood and nerve supply, in turn enabling balanced growth and function.”
Parents may seek Osteopathic care for their babies for various conditions such as torticollis and associated plagiocephalyor flattening of the head, breastfeeding issues that may stem from the baby’s reduced neck movement or following significant birth trauma such as the use of forceps.
What can you expect when you bring your baby or child to see an Osteopath? A thorough discussion of the child’s history including obstetric and birth followed by screening for impediments in movement, coordination and balance to assess developmental milestones.
An open discussion of the diagnosis based on the practitioners findings and observations and the proposed care, including Osteopathic treatment, other modalities or referral if required.
We request that you bring your green maternal health booklet to your child’s appointment and maybe also some snacks or a storybook to enjoy during the treatment.

If you are aware that your child or baby has a clicky knee or hip, or a feeding preference, flattening of the head, a history of a traumatic birth with high intervention or any other imbalances, then perhaps you should consider booking in your little one for a treatment with Sequence Osteo’s experienced practitioners: Dr Joanna Hilbert or Dr Piers Bubbbers.
You can conveniently book your appointment online at sequenceosteo. com.au or by phoning 5261 5766. Mention the ad in this paper for $10 off your initial consult.
