Summer activity stretches out in the sun

January 3, 2018 BY

Summer holidays are here, the days are getting warmer and daylight is plentiful, it’s the perfect time to make a commitment to being physically active and getting fit.

Physical activity works like medicine for the mental and physical health of your body.

Various studies have shown that just 30 minutes of physical activity a day can help to maintain and/or improve your health, as well as reducing your risk of future health problems including type 2 diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

Exercise will also help improve your sleeping pattern and helps to reduce negative thoughts and in return increases your overall health and wellbeing.

During the warmer months, many of us will spend more time outside.

Casual strolls along the beach, trips to the zoo, bike riding or hiking with the family, or simply washing the car or spending time in the garden all forms of physical activity and the best part, you are enjoying yourself while doing it.

Although physical activity in the sunshine can be a great way of getting your daily physical activity, we often don’t realise how much strain we are putting on our bodies and we tend to find ourselves with small aches or pains in unusual spots.

It is important to keep hydrated, wear sunscreen and stretch out our muscles. Making sure to stretch out our main muscle groups after a long day on your feet or after exercise helps your body to regain energy and prepare ourselves for the following day without any or little discomfort.

If you are feeling physically and/or mentally fatigued, don’t worry, there are a number of ways you can improve your wellbeing over the busy summer break!
