Swinging into the Seniors Festival
Over 65s tilted, turned and tapped their toes into the 2017 Victorian Seniors Festival, with a local event that brought together older people from across the Surf Coast.
Swing Into Seniors Festival was held at the Torquay Senior Citizens Centre on October 12, with more than 80 over 65s attending the free event.
Organised by Surf Coast Shire, the event was held as part of the 2017 Victorian Seniors Festival celebrations.
Entertainment was provided by the Belmont High Jazz Band, featuring young Surf Coast musicians, while the 1929 Studios dancers performed a demonstration and interactive dance sequence, with attendees learning steps to join in the fun.
Afternoon tea was also included, while the dress code was ‘a touch of glamour’.
Shire mayor Brian McKiterick described the event as a fun way to celebrate seniors in the Surf Coast.
“As a Council, we want to support older people to live independent and meaningful lives,” Cr McKiterick said.
“Swing Into Seniors Festival is an ideal opportunity for our valued citizens to socialise, participate in a community event and most importantly, have a great afternoon out.”
Guests will be able to access information on the council’s Positive Ageing services, which support people to stay social and healthy, get around, and maintain the home. The services for eligible people include delivered meals, home modifications, respite care, domestic assistance, personal care and social support.
