Recycled art to shine in Queenscliff
Artworks made of recycled materials will don the walls at Queenscliffe Neighbourhood House when Artfully Repurposed returns this year.
Officially opening next month, the exhibition will feature more than 140 artworks from scarves and beanies through to sculptures, steelwork and more.
Queenscliffe Neighbourhood House Gallery committee volunteer Jaimie Mavromihalis said the idea of the exhibition was to demonstrate what can be made from things that already exist.
“The while idea is to look at recycling objects instead of just throwing them away, repurposing them to become fantastic pieces of art and fashion and that they can be used again.”

Following the success of last year’s inaugural Artfully Repurposed exhibition, the number of participants in 2025 has grown.
This year members of different groups from Neighbourhood House will be involved, alongside community members and students from Christian College Geelong’s Drysdale campus.
The range of art on display has also expanded to include objects that can be used with artists choosing to make wooden children’s toys and dolls made out of scrap fabric.
Event organisers host the exhibition in hopes it encourages people to reflect on what they’ve already got in a world where there is so much production.

“It’s really addressing the access that we see everywhere, consumerism and just taking a step back and having some
fun with it as well,” Ms Mavromihalis said.
“I want people to feel hopeful about the future that even though we are facing an excess and a lot of consumerism, there is hope for creating wonderful, quirky items from things we’ve already got.
“There’s a couple of pieces of denim this year just this year just to show what can be done with the mountains of denim that actually are produced by the planet.”
Artfully Repurposed will be on display at the Queenscliffe Neighbourhood House Gallery from June 7 until July 13.
