Women invited to learn about their finances

October 20, 2017 BY

CROWE Horwath will host a Women & Finance function next week to educate locals how to create wealth and plan for their financial future.

Crowe Horwath financial adviser Connie Caccamo said the event on September 27 was not a seminar with Powerpoint, just expert advisers informally sharing what they know and the regular issues they come across.

Guests will also get to enjoy drinks and savouries at lovely local venues.

Connie will join Melanie Crowe from Vines Lawyers and Peta Walter from Bellarine Property, who will each share their knowledge, with more presenters to follow.

Trends show that many women still leave the responsibility for the family finances to their partners.

But what happens if the partner dies unexpectedly? Or you get divorced or break up?

At the end of the day, we all need to take responsibility for our own financial situation and understand how to save through superannuation and buying shares and/or investment properties – to have a secure financial future when it comes time to retire and maybe something left in the kitty for the children.

“Over the years I have noticed an increase in the number of women coming to me with funds from a property settlement having divorced their partner and having no idea what to do with it and not knowing how long that will last them, which indicates to me they have had no real involvement with the finances in their prior marriage,” Ms Caccamo said.

People also need to understand that our retirement years now last beyond 10-15 years, and are living on average to 85 and up to 95 years of age.

That’s 20-30 years of retirement that we need to fund!

There are many financial things to learn and understand, and strategies that can be tailored to your particular circumstances, as no two people have exactly the same financial circumstances.

Crowe Horwath will cover investing to retirement planning, tax issues to wills and inheritance.

They will also discuss the importance of ensuring you have an up-to-date will so that your ex-partner does not inherit from you, and a power of attorney appointed should you become unexpectedly incapacitated.

Those interested in finding out more can go along to the Women & Finance network launch, but places are limited so registration is essential.
