World best joins Blackman’s
Blackman’s Brewery has welcomed Glenn Laurie and his highly sought-after expertise in food and produce as their new head chef.
Joining the team at Blackman’s Mr Laurie has an extensive background in world cuisines having worked on the super yacht Elizabeth F for the likes of Matthew Freud, the Murdoch family and David Cameron.
Mr Laurie learnt the importance of using the finest sustainable seasonal produce after a four and half year stint in London working at the Micheline starred The River Cafe under Ruth Rodgers and the late Rose Gray.
After arriving back in Australia, Mr Laurie and partner Lolo opened the Little Black Pig & Sons in Heidelberg, where the menu changed daily based on the freshest and best seasonal produce available.
Mr Laurie said after regularly coming down to holiday in Torquay they made the decision to make the sea change.
“We had always wanted to live by the sea. After owning/selling the restaurant we just wanted to get out of the rat race and start enjoying life again,” he said.
Renn Blackman of Blackman’s Brewery said Mr Laurie was bringing his philosophy and culinary skills to match freshly brewed beer to his delicious dishes.
“Glenn is a legend! We are completely stoked to have him on board. His ethos around quality food is a perfect match for Blackman’s and we are so proud to have Glenn’s hearty, delicious food coming out of our kitchen,” Mr Blackman said.
Mr Laurie said the decision to join the team was an easy one thanks to Blackman’s fabulous staff and product.
“Well it was a bit of a no brainer, when you get an opportunity to work with great people that share your passion for great produce you don’t pass it up – and beer,” he said.
Blackman’s latest seasonal menu items include Portarlington mussels, pot roasted prawns, Raven’s Creek pork shoulder and many more delicious dishes which launched earlier this month.
