Zeally good loaf isn’t half baked
Local business Zeally Bay sourdough has been awarded the champion Australian organic Product of the year trophy at the recent Australian Food Awards (AFA) presentation dinner.
The annual dinner hosted by The Royal Agricultural society of Victoria (RAsV) awarded 14 champion Trophies to 11 of the best food producers nationwide.
Zeally Bay sourdough won the trophy for their organic spelt, Buckwheat and Polenta Loaf, sharing the win with Bundarra Berkshires from new south Wales, for their Free-Range Pork Rack. The AFA program prides itself on the recognition and celebration of outstanding food produced across the country.
RASV chief executive officer Mark O’Sullivan, said that this year’s AFA winners were no exception to the home-grown excellence seen in previous years.
“it is extremely important for Australians to not only know and see where their food comes from, but to also be proud and celebrate the remarkable achievements of our Australian growers and producers, who create phenomenal produce day in and day out,” Mr O’Sullivan said.
“The RAsV is committed to creating valuable opportunities for producers through AFA, with benchmarking of products, invaluable judging feedback and market differentiation that comes with AFA’s seal of excellence for medal winners.”
Apollo Bay’s Dooley’s ice cream also took home two awards, winning the champion Dairy Trophy for its unparalleled Passionfruit ice cream and for the second year running, the champion medium Producer Trophy.
