THE running of the bet365 Geelong Cup is less than a week away, and the event was officially launched on Monday this week.

The Geelong Racing Club (GRC) hosted the function at Jack Rabbit Winery on the Bellarine Peninsula in a COVIDSafe format with a limited number of guests.

With K rock’s Tom King on MC duties, attendees included GRC president Peter Murrihy, chief executive officer Luke Rayner and track manager Jimmy Dalton, AFL media personality and Carlton and United Breweries ambassador Billy Brownless, Avalon Airport chief executive officer Justin Giddings, and The Sharp Group director Lyndsay Sharp.

To be held this year on October 20, the bet365 Geelong Cup is the flagship event on the GRC’s calendar, but 2021 marks the second consecutive year the horse race will be run without a crowd.

Assuming the targets in the Victorian government’s Roadmap to Deliver the National Plan are met, the GRC is looking forward to having punters at the Geelong racecourse on November 6 for the Ballan Cup, followed by Girls on Track on November 14, Christmas Day racing on December 10 and Boxing Day racing on December 26.
