About 300 wreckers take to the water for swim

February 16, 2018 BY

Laverton Swimming Club took part on the day.

ORGANISERS of the ninth annual Wreck2Reef Open Water Swim Classic at Indented Head on the weekend say it was one of the best events yet.

John Walter from Indented Head Yacht Club said about 300 people competed on Sunday, with 80 participating in the new 2.5-kilometre course.

“The weather was almost perfect, there was a mild south breeze for swimmers and cool and pleasant conditions for spectators.

“There was definitely a significant improvement on numbers from the previous year, for both spectators and competitors.”

Started in 2010, the Wreck2Reef is held in the protected waters of Half Moon Bay, which offers some of the smoothest and safest water available to competitors in Port Phillip.

The Wreck2Reef Open Water Swim Classic is hosted and co-ordinated each year by the Indented Head Yacht Club, and raises much needed funds to support healthy activities for the youth of the local area.
