A SAFER and more beautiful St Leonards has been identified as a goal of the Morrison Government which has pledged $430,000 to the area.

The St Leonards Beautification Project aims to improve infrastructure along the foreshore as well as implement CCTV cameras throughout the shopping centre to minimise crime in the area.

“I am delighted that the Morrison Government has approved funding in what is a major win for the St Leonards Community,” Senator Sarah Henderson said.

Consultations were held with local residents as well as the City of Greater Geelong to produce a concept plan for the upgraded community infrastructure that includes a pavilion, public barbeque, new toilet facilities and landscaping.

“This significant 2019 federal election promise demonstrates the Liberal Party’s commitment to the St Leonards community,” Ms Henderson said.

The installation of CCTV cameras will help combat anti-social behaviour and crime that Ms Henderson says will create a safer township for both locals and visitors of the coast.

“St Leonards is a wonderful town, but it’s been badly let down by State Labor which has declined to deliver these vital community infrastructure upgrades,” she said.

“As the member for Corangamite, I was delighted to join with the St Leonards Beautification Committee and back its plan for a more beautiful foreshore precinct along with CCTV cameras.”

The Morrison Government have promised a further $5 million upgrade to Murradoc Road which links St Leonards with the nearby township of Drysdale.

With high traffic of vehicles, businesses and residential properties along this road the upgrades are believed to come as a direct benefit to local residents.

A detailed design of the proposed foreshore upgrades will commence in early 2021 with construction to be completed in late 2021.
