45th Pier to Pub winners crowned

LORNE hosted thousands of spectators and athletes of all ages and swim levels yesterday (Saturday, January 11) in a sold-out 45th Powercor Lorne Pier to Pub.

More than 5,200 participants took part in the famous 1.2-km open water swim from the Lorne pier to the finish line, which is positioned directly out the front of the Lorne SLSC clubhouse.

Olympic gold medallist Lani Pallister (11:25) secured her sixth straight win in the women’s Superfish division while fellow Olympian Nick Sloman took out the win for the men with a time of 10 minutes and 13 seconds.

Second place in the male division went to 1500m freestyle world champion and Olympian Sam Short (10:28), while Madison Cooper (11:45) took out the female second place.

Lorne local Harry Hay (10:38) won third in his division sending the crowds crazy as he sprinted through the finish line in a highly competitive shallow run.

The other side of the bay was also represented in podium with Portsea Surf Life Saving Club member Mackie Hunter placing third for the females recording a time of 11:56.

The Pier to Pub is one of the largest events on the regional sporting calendar and Powercor has supported it for six consecutive years.

More than 400 volunteers from the Lorne SLSC and surrounding regional community helped the event run smoothly.
