Bring in New Year’s Eve with a bang on the Bellarine

FIREWORKS will return to Queenscliff this New Year’s Eve for the first time in what is believed to be about 30 years.

The fireworks will be part of the Queenscliff Harbour’s New Year’s celebration.

International artist Jordie Lane and the Sleepers will headline New Year’s Eve at Queenscliff Harbour on Sunday night.

Supporting acts also include Baby Blue and local artist Holly Joyce.

Entertainment and music gets under way from 6.30pm.

There will be balloons and Dazzling Dan the Magic Man will create some magical entertainment for children and adults alike.

For all those young at heart, there will be music to dance and sing along to, followed by a spectacular fireworks display at 9.30pm, and then another at midnight.

Events co-ordinator Helene Cameron said that after chatting with locals, it seemed the Borough of Queenscliffe had not held any official fireworks for about three decades.

“The Harbour made the decision after discussing it with their traders, who willingly have sponsored the event, including the Queenscliff Point Lonsdale Community Enterprise and the Queenscliff Bowling, Tennis and Croquet Club,” Ms Cameron said.

The event will be held at the Queenscliff Harbour in the restaurant precinct.

Tickets are $20 per person (children under 16 free), and are available from queenscliffharbour.com.au.

Meanwhile, Bellarine Bayside will entertain locals with a family-friendly fireworks display on the Portarlington foreshore, near Sproat Street, at 9.30pm – bring the kids and the camera and have a fun evening.

Barwon Coast will also host an amazing display of fireworks from the Barwon Bluff at the family-friendly time of 10pm.

Other events taking place in the Borough on December 31 include the Queenscliffe Community Market at Princess Park between 9am and 2pm.

The boutique market is the ideal place to come and meet your friends while wandering through a wonderful range of fresh produce, hand crafts, plants and lots more.

A Summer Carnival of Fun at Princess Park through Christmas, New Year and January will feature tides, games and entertainment for all ages until 8pm.

There will also be a large jumping castle and the all-famous fairy floss for children.
