VOLUNTEERS will converge on The Point Conservation Reserve this Sunday, October 19, for The Point’s 10th Annual Planting Day.
Residents, nature lovers and environmental enthusiasts are invited to attend and roll up their sleeves for the milestone occasion, which celebrates community care.
Bellarine Catchment Network (BCN) president Vicki Perrett said the tenth anniversary is an important milestone for the community to celebrate.
“BCN is delighted to be organising this 10th annual revegetation day at The Point,” she said
“It’s a real testament to the commitment and care of everyone who has helped over the years.
“In this milestone year, we’re keen to engage with the wider community and to connect with locals and anyone who loves this place.”
Predicted to be the biggest yet, the event will revegetate Coastal Moonah Woodland and Coastal Saltmarsh species by planting Indigenous vegetation.
While supporting the diversity around the reserve, the planting day is also an opportunity to inform attendees how they can play a part in protecting the area.
Coordinated by BCN and Moremac, people are asked to reflect on what has been achieved at the reserve in the past decade and consider how they can support it into the future.
“We think the event provides a great opportunity to establish a Friends of The Point group, which brings together people who share our passion and who are interested in helping to care for the reserve over its next decade,” Ms Perrett said.
The planting day is open to everyone with no prior experience necessary, tools, gloves and guidance will be provided on the day.
Participants are required to wear long pants, long sleeves and boots or shoes that can get muddy.
Volunteers will be meeting at the gravel area across from 592-6701 Shell Road, Point Lonsdale at 10am.
